queen vistoria proclaims, public art tour,

we are amused!

In collaboration with Pure Dead Brilliant Tours of Glasgow,

a promising young Glasgow School of Art student, Alan Austin has come up with an Environmental Art project incorporating an alternative walking tour of George Square, Glasgow. This tour could have Queen Victoria rocking on her plinth proclaiming with her consort Prince Albert ‘We are amused’!

The tour seeks to reflect the ‘secret history of George Square’. It aims to explore the concept of how people experience the same physical spaces in different ways. Alan Austin’s clever use of tour-guide commentary and made-up facts creates an alternative history of George Square and will alter the perceptions of ourselves and our environment.

Alan Austin explores different mediums for ways in which to deliver his ideas. He has cleverly incorporated a level of humour into the tour to realise his ideas and ultimately make the arts fun and accessible to all.

Presenting this walking tour in conjunction with Pure Dead Brilliant Tours of Glasgow, Alan intends that a level of sophistication and authenticity will make the participants suspend disbelief whilst moving around the monuments in the square and make this alternative history real!

Make up your own mind what you imagine Queen Victoria and the rest of George Square denizens would say about Pure Dead Brilliant Tours alternative version of Glasgow social history!

Pure Dead Brilliant Tours have a unique range of vehicle and walking tours including an Antique & Auction Tour, City Night Lights Tours, which offer visitors and locals alike the opportunity to discover a different side to Glasgow’s vibrant culture, history and heritage. Full details of all tours can be found on The Pure Dead Brilliant Tours website.
