Arts & Cultural Tourism
The Arts and Culture team was created to highlight and encourage the strong connections between arts and cultural tourism in Scotland. The arts, along with cultural events and activities are often a key driver in destination choice for visitors but they also enhance the visitor experience of those who visit Scotland for other reasons.
The richness, variety and breadth of our arts and our cultural heritage in Scotland ranges from Rock Ness and the St Magnus Festival in Orkney through to the Skye Festival, Celtic Connections and The Edinburgh International Festival. Recent accolades include Edinburgh being declared the world’s First City of Literature and Glasgow a World Centre of Music.
The challenge now is to find innovative ways to harness these vibrant and vital sectors to maximise opportunities for audience development and for increased revenue streams from visitors. Arts and cultural tourism also offer significant opportunities to extend the tourist season.
The Arts and Cultural Tourism Team is focussed on:
· Highlighting the potential for successful co-operation and sustainable development through partnerships.
· Encouraging more collaboration between the broad range of arts and cultural tourism providers throughout all of Scotland.
· Working with arts and cultural bodies and other agencies to provide visitors with easy access to information and booking facilities.
· Promoting creative and innovative enterprises that offer cultural enrichment and fulfilment for the visitor.
We hold facilitated brainstorm sessions around Scotland, which bring together tourism operators with arts and cultural providers to come up with new innovative concepts. These may be run in conjunction with Pride and Passion's "Community Challenge" locations who can run with the ideas generated.
The Arts and Culture team champion is Graham Russell, AtticSalt.
