strategic change in scottish tourism

TiG comprises an active membership of over fifty businesses, encompassing business leaders and established entrepreneurs from across tourism, joined by key representatives from the principal national support agencies. There are 2 permanent members of staff based in the Edinburgh office - Sue Crossman, Project Director and Jenny Reilly, Project Co-ordinator.

The Tourism Innovation Group’s vision is to be the driver of long term strategic change in Scottish tourism.

The group agree that this vision will be achieved by a mission centring around:

• Identifying and focusing on key strategic issues where TiG can bring about change.

• Fostering innovation across the industry

• Incubating specific projects to the point of implementation (with TiG’s help) by delivery partners, often public sector agencies

• Supporting public sector/industry led innovation

• Encouraging members to meet, listen to specialists, and discuss; functioning as an ideas “think-tank”

• Integrating closely with the Pride & Passion initiative

TiG concentrates on innovative thinking and brainstorming ideas as well as influencing via effective channels.

TiG members have formed 5 teams, reflecting interests and concerns about a number of priorities. Use the navigation on the left to find out more.

TiG has creating a new Application of Technology team because TiG appreciates how important technology is to tourism and feels that more needs to be done to raise the application of technology within the tourism sector.

TiG members were also involved with the conception of the Pride & Passion movement.

Pride & Passion is an industry-led movement to improve the quality and reliability of the visitor experience in Scotland. It focuses on how businesses and individuals can improve their own lot as well as that of the visitors by working together and looking at how they do what they do from the perspective of their customers. The idea is to improve our tourism industry from within so we move with the market’s expectations rather than resting on any laurels we may have.

A network of people from within the trade exists to motivate, support and advise other businesses through existing groups and on a one-to-one basis and through existing groups. Find out more at www.prideandpassion.net
