The team seeks to gather information and work out how best to learn from individual businesses, geographical groups or business types and their equivalent abroad. We aim to: learn from others, benchmark against others, develop international business partnerships, and show tourism operators how to trade internationally.
The most recent success for the Global team is the development of a Green Badge Guide, a fast track training course addressing a current shortage of qualified Russian and Chinese bilingual tour guides. This was developed by in collaberation with VisitScotland and the Scottish Tour Guides Association. Launched in July 2007, 18 Russian and Chinese Students learnt about Scotland’s history and culture and specialised in the subject of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Highland areas. Another achievement for the team, working with Scottish Development International was the creation of the Win Worldwide initiative, which aims to support tourism businesses in their quest for internationalism and the accompanying guide provides step-by-step information as to how to best achieve this.
Further information and an online copy of the guide can be found on
Workshops with interested companies, on how to use the Win Worldwide Guide were held in Scotland in 2005 and early 2006, in Edinburgh, Forth Valley and Inverness. Futureevents are sheduled for the Higlands.
In addition to these workshops the team prepared a business development mission to the key market of Germany in February 2006, in order to support the following Scottish tourism-based companies: Adventures on Wheels, Boots n Paddles, Broxmouth Park, Cringletie House Hotel, Rabbies Trail Burners, Rua Reidh Lighthouse, Speyside Wildlife and Wilderness Scotland.
