Formed in 2002, The Tourism Innovation Group (TiG) is a private-sector led group, which aims to stimulate tourism operators into taking action to add to the quality, scope and success of tourism businesses, improving Scotland’s competitiveness in tourism markets – in other words, to INNOVATE. This means doing things differently, exploring new avenues, collaborating effectively and taking risks.
TiG comprises an active membership of over fifty businesses, representing a cross-section of tourism operators and entrepreneurs. Members of TiG are determined that Scotland should participate fully in the global growth of tourism – and are prepared to do something to help achieve this. The proposition is simple: “what can we, TiG do – here, now and in a practical sense – to remove barriers that hold our industry back and accelerate change where the real opportunities lie”.
TiG aims to stimulate tourism business success. Businesses that develop new products and services or significantly improve business practices are almost twice as likely to increase turnover as those that don’t.
TiG is funded by key stakeholders in the Scottish tourism sector: Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and VisitScotland, each making valuable contributions through senior staff involvement as members, in addition to their financial support. TiG has provided a very effective and valuable mechanism for public sector agencies to network and engage with industry at a strategic level.
